A residential K9 Mold Inspection includes a full search of all interior living spaces of the property and 2 vehicles per residence.
Pricing is based on the size and location of the property. Please contact us for a custom quote.
The length of time required will depend on the size of the property. For most homes, it will take 1 1/2 – 2 hours. This includes a pre-inspection, K9 detection, explanation of the findings, and answering any questions.
No, we will not need to cut into walls, drill holes or modify your home. This is a non-invasive detection service that pinpoints the location of any sources of mold (active or inactive).
That will depend on your specific needs. If you would like to know the exact species of mold present in your home, combining a K9 Mold Inspection with additional testing will provide you with the accuracy of location (K9) and the specific species.
However, this additional testing is not required. A K9 Mold Inspection is sufficient for determining mold locations for remediation purposes.
No, K9 Mold Inspections is an independent canine detection service.
While having an inspection and mold remediation completed by the same company may seem convenient, this practice creates a conflict of interest. This practice is actually illegal in some states.
If mold is detected in your home, we will provide resources to aid you in determining the next steps for safely remediating your home.
Yes. The best time for post-remediation detection services is once remediation has been completed and prior to the area being put back together (installing drywall, flooring, etc).
If you have completed mold remediation and would like Pearl to confirm all the mold has been removed, please give us a call for more details.
About Pearl (5)
Pearl was trained by Master Canine Trainer, Bill Whitstine, at the Florida Canine Academy. Bill Whitstine, a leader in canine training since 1989, has been training mold detection dogs for over 30 years.
Pearl’s mold detection training consisted of 1,000 training hours. She was trained to detect 16 types of mold. These types of mold include thousands of sub-species of mold.
In addition to her initial training, Pearl receives daily training and completes recertification with her mold detection trainer every quarter.
Dogs have been trained to perform mold detection for more than 30 years. Over that time, there has not been an identified increased risk to their health. This is attributed to their unique ability to do scent detection without inhaling air into the lungs and the care given to these trained dogs.
Dogs have two pathways in their nose – the respiratory and olfactory systems. The respiratory system is used for inhaling air and the olfactory system is used for scent detection.
The olfactory system is unique in that the air does not go to their lungs. The olfactory system allows a dog to sniff 150-200 times per minute and then purge the air without it entering the lungs.
The distinction between the olfactory and respiratory systems is important. Many dogs live in moldy environments. Breathing this air into the lungs 24 hours a day can be a significant health hazard.
Comparatively, Pearl is in a home approximately 20-30 minutes of the total inspection time.
Due to our personal experience with mold, Pearl lives in a home that is frequently monitored for water intrusion and mold. She is also on a very specific diet to minimize her exposure to mycotoxins, is monitored by a Holistic Veterinarian and is on a precautionary health protocol.
Pearl is able to locate mold in some of the hardest to reach locations. She can detect mold hidden inside walls, underneath tile and other types of flooring, in air ducts, HVAC systems, in ceilings and many other locations.
Yes, Pearl can detect non-viable (“dead” or “dried out”) mold.
Mold that is often referred to as “dead” is considered non-viable. This simply means the mold in a hibernating state. Despite this hibernating state, it can still present a health risk.
Since “Dead” mold does not have an active water source, it is not usually detected with other types of inspections (such as infrared testing). Since visual and infrared inspections rely heavily on moisture being present, hibernating mold is often missed and excluded from remediation efforts. Of course, this can result in continued health issues for those living in the property.
Additional testing is not required. A K9 Mold Inspection is sufficient for determining the location of mold for remediation purposes.
If you would like to know the exact species of mold present in your home, combining a K9 Mold Inspection with additional testing will provide you with the accuracy of location (K9) and the specific species of mold present.
